Field measurements in KGHM Polkowice-Sieroszowice mine
A group of researchers from the Digital Mining Center team conducted measurements in the Polkowice-Sieroszowice mine on October 27 and 31, 2022.
Poland’s Polkowice-Sieroszowice mine is a modern mine that extracts copper ore, silver, and salt. The mine’s industrial copper ore reserves (as of December 31, 2017) amount to 373 million tons. The main mining areas where mining operations are conducted are: “Polkowice”, “Radwanice East”, “Sieroszowice” and “Gaworzyce”.
The purpose of the visit was to collect data on a grid selected for future pilot in KGHM (2023) on which currently the Rock Breaking Device (URB) is operating with a hydraulic hammer. For a comparative study of hydraulic and electric hammer performance, a digital camera, LiDAR sensors, and microphone-based measurement data were collected, supported with electric power consumption measurement. The same measurements are planned for 2023 while the LEH will be operating underground to prove the benefits of using an innovative, eco-friendly solution in copper ore production.
